Affiliate landing pages and what you need to know
Hello
I know this email and blog post and late. I told you Monday to watch out for it and now it’s Tuesday morning.
We had a bad lighting storm here and my internet connection has been up and down since yesterday.
Bellsouth told me they would get in fixed in a 24-hour window and as of this blog post I’m still waiting.
Sorry about that.
I’m launching webtoolsnow.com today so go check it out while it is still free.
Ok on to the real content of this email.
I hope my last email really got the point across that you need to build your list.
Just to recap the last email.
You have to build a list because it is the only real asset you have.
See the truth is if you have a good product then somebody is going to copy it and knock you off.
Or the market will change directions.
Two years ago SUV were all the rage in the US. Now you can’t give them away.
Or the government will change the law.
Last year it was not a big deal to make over $20,000 per month as an affiliate to the online casinos. Now they are illegal to deal with.
I have had this happen more times then I care to count. So by having your own list you can still make money like clockwork no matter what.
Ok now for the second part.
What is a good affiliate landing page and how can it help and why should I have one.
First off what on earth is a landing page.
When I first started on the Internet in 1999 we called them doorway pages. The name is different but the purpose is the same. A landing page has only one purpose and that is to get somebody to take the action you want.
It does not matter if you are selling a digital product, physical product or a service the out come is all the same. Get them to take action.
This action could be something like:
Sign up for your list.
Click through to your product.
Click through to an affiliate product.
To hit the back button if they are not qualified for what ever you offer.
The point I’m trying to make is you need to get them to take action.
So the question is how do we design a landing page that works?
There is no right or wrong way to do it. But you need to test different pages to see what works best for you.
I have some landing pages that are very basic that convert far better then pages with lots of pretty graphics. While some pages with lots of graphics convert better.
It just depends on your audience.
A good example of this is my buddy Jonny Andrews from the
http://www.theguruassassin.com
all of his pages are clean and they don’t have a lot of graphics on them. But they convert like crazy in his market.
Now part of what makes them convert so well his Jonny’s marketing and he really has a killer program. Plus he gives away more free content then most people put in their paid programs. If you want to see a master in action just sign up on his landing page.
Check out his pages at
http://www.theguruassassin.com
and see what I’m talking about.
You should always start with a clean page like Jonny and then test it and use the results to measure against other pages. If you don’t then you are leaving a lot of money on the table.
This can be done free with Google’s split tester. I will make some videos on how to do that latter.
Now your landing page needs to have a few common things on it.
First you need a headline. I know somebody is going to ask why.
Because they work.
Take a look at any newspaper in the world and you will see a headline first above the fold.
(MARKETER NOTE: In case you don’t know what above the fold is, that is the part of the page you see with out having to scroll down.) This is like beachfront property on the Internet.
The same thing works online.
You should try to make the headline as benefit driven as possible, if your headline is lame then you can forget about anything else happening.
Second you need to have a picture of the product or a video in place. Lets face it a picture is worth a thousand words. Even if it is just a cd or DVD box cover you need to have something people can see. Let me know that I’m in the right place with out having to read anything on the page.
Third you need to have a list of benefits that are easy to read. Make it as easy as possible for people to say “YES”. See most people skimp on this part and they loose a lot of sales.
People are always looking at what is in it for them. So make sure your bulleted list plays to there desire for what ever you are selling. If it is weight loss then talk about how it can do it’s magic.
Fourth you need a call to action. This is you ask them to sign up for your mailing list or to click through to something else.
I like the words “Click Here Now”
Simple but effective.
Now to see a landing page in action go to

You can save the file from the web to your computer or I can post a link to this and some other pages you can download Tuesday afternoon.
Wednesday I’m going to do some videos were I show you how to build a landing page and how to set up your name capture and then we are going to funnel some traffic to it and look at the test results.
I’m going to post this on the blog at www.ckirkland.com so if you have any questions about this or anything else just ask.
Thanks
Charles Kirkland
